Conceived between Hale Arpa’s Aegean island studio in Imbros (Gökçeada) and Istanbul, “Dual Unity” (2012) is a sumptuous masterwork in acrylic and collage on paper (110 × 170 cm (43 × 67 in)). Layering torn textured papers, gouache, and oil pastels, Arpa reconstructs the elemental geometry of the Aegean coastline—where Homer placed the oceanic rest of Poseidon.
The interplay of vibrant vermilion, olive green, and cobalt azure produces an intoxicating tactile richness. “Dual Unity” dissolves the boundary between domestic sanctuary and cosmic myth, celebrating life, literature, and the radiant Mediterranean sun as eternal companions to the creative soul.
